The Ontario layer matters
Ontario bans many cosmetic pesticide uses on lawns and gardens, but the province lists exceptions for health or safety, indoor pests, rodents and pests that can cause structural damage. The allowed use still has to match the federal label.
Federal registration answers whether a pesticide is authorized in Canada; the label controls the named pest, treatment location and directions. The province—and sometimes the municipality—can add rules about who may apply it or where it may be used.
Before treating a household pest
Do not choose a pesticide until you know what organism you are trying to control and where the activity originates.
Food, water, clutter, gaps and building defects often determine whether a treatment holds.
Use only a Canadian-registered product for the pest and treatment site stated on its label.
Outdoor and landscape uses are the area most likely to have an additional municipal restriction.
